AeroGust final report now available

Now that the project has finished, you can read the final Summary Report. The report provides a background to gusts and design; a discussion of non-linearities and gust loads prediction; non-linear simulation of wind turbines and in-service data collection; reducing reliance on wind tunnel data and uncertainty in the gust loads process; and methods to adapt the gust loads process for non-linear and innovative structures. The report finishes with a summary of achievements and impact, and future challenges.


Royal Aeronautical Society Future of Aerodynamics Conference

On Tuesday 24 July Dr Dorian Jones presented a summary of the AeroGust project at the Royal Aeronautical Society Future of Aerodynamics Conference in Bristol. The audience consisted of aerodynamics researchers, practitioners and programme managers from worldwide academia, industry and research establishments including NASA.

The presentation covered five main themes:

  1. Motivation for the project
  2. Nonlinear time domain gust simulations
  3. Reduced Order Modelling for gusts
  4. Reduced reliance on wind tunnel data
  5. Uncertainty quantification of aeroelastic systems with structural or aerodynamic nonlinearities

AeroGust project booklet

The AeroGust Project Booklet provides a detailed summary of the work carried out by each partner over the three years of the project. Each section outlines the background to the research and it’s aims and objectives. This is followed by a summary of the findings along with achievements and conclusions. AeroGust Special Session papers available now

On Wednesday 27 June 2018 AeroGust presented five papers at an AeroGust Special Session at the AIAA Aviation Forum (2018 Applied Aerodynamics Conference) in Atlanta, USA.

Six members of the AeroGust consortium attended the session – Dr Robbie Cook and Dr Chris Wales (University of Bristol), Dr Benoit Tartinville (Numeca), Philipp Bekemeyer (DLR) and Roy Horwitz (University of Cape Town). The session was chaired by Dr Dorian Jones (University of Bristol).

AeroGust workshop presentations now available

AeroGust workshop

On 24 May 2018 the AeroGust project partners presented their work to an audience of academics and industrialists at the AeroGust project workshop. The workshop took place at Engineers’ House Conference Centre in Bristol.

A series of presentations chaired by Dr Dorian Jones from the University of Bristol, summarised the work of the project carried out over the last three years. The presentations covered:
